Richmond Green Closure

Changes are coming to Richmond Green Library!

A modern, accessible service desk that helps us to better connect with our community is being installed during Richmond Green’s closure. We’ll also be installing a new materials sorting machine, which allows us to process returned books much faster. This reduces hold wait times and helps our team to get items back on our shelves even faster than before. Additional furniture and cosmetic changes will be made to the branch during its closure.

  • July 2, 2022: The last day that you can visit, borrow items, pick up your holds and return items to Richmond Green Library. After this date, your active holds (holds available for pickup) will be moved to Central Library. You may also choose to Suspend (or pause) your holds or change your holds pickup location to another branch.

  • July 4, 2022: Richmond Green Library will close. No items can be returned to the Library or its dropbox.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will Richmond Green Library be closed?

Richmond Green Library will be closed starting on July 2, 2022. We estimate that the Library will reopen in late August before the new school year begins. Please continue to check our website for the latest information on Richmond Green’s closure.

Why does the renovation have to happen over the summer?

Richmond Green Library is a shared facility which serves as a community branch library as well as a school library to the Richmond Green Secondary School. It remains open during the school year so that the space can continue to support students of Richmond Green Secondary School. Closing the Library during the summer allows us to make much-needed renovations while continuing to support students during the school year.

How can I participate in the Summer Reading Club?

Summer Reading Club kits are available for pickup at Richmond Green Library from June 20 until July 2, 2022. After this time, you’ll be able to pick up Summer Reading Club kits at Central, Richvale and Oak Ridges Libraries.

You may still register for the Summer Reading Club by selecting Richmond Green as your home branch. During the Library's closure, you'll need to go to another RHPL branch for your check-in activities while Richmond Green is closed.

What other RHPL locations can I visit?

RHPL has three locations that you may choose to visit while Richmond Green Library is closed:

  • Central Library (located near Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive)
  • Oak Ridges Library (located north of 19th Line and Yonge Street)
  • Richvale Library (located north of Yonge Street and Highway 7)

Find your nearest RHPL location here.

I have a hold available for pickup during the closure, and I’ve selected Richmond Green as my pickup location.

If your hold becomes available during the closure, you’ll have the option to either suspend your hold or pick up your item at another RHPL location. Suspending your hold allows you to maintain your spot on the holds list until a specified future date.

If you don't suspend your holds, once they become available they'll be waiting for you at Central Library. You can also change your holds pickup location to Richvale or Oak Ridges libraries

Where can I return my overdue items?

You may hold onto your overdue items during Richmond Green’s closure or return them to your nearest RHPL location. Once Richmond Green Library reopens, we’ll let you know so that you can return your items to the Library.

All items checked out prior to Richmond Green’s closure will be due back to Richmond Green Library one week after the branch reopens. While RHPL no longer collects fines for overdue items, you'll be charged a replacement fee for the items you’ve borrowed if they are not returned in a timely manner (4 weeks after the item due date).

Step-by-Step Guides

We've put together some handy guides to help optimize your library service during the transition period, which will be especially useful for customers who regularly use Richmond Green Library.

  • Suspending (or pausing) Holds: Make your holds available at a later date when Richmond Green is open once again. This option is convenient for customers who do not wish to pick up their holds at an alternate RHPL location during Richmond Green’s closure.

  • Changing Holds Pickup Location: A default location for Central Library will be assigned to customers with hold that become available. This option is convenient for customers who don’t want to wait until Richmond Green Library reopens to pick up their holds, and would prefer to travel to Oak Ridges or Richvale Libraries.
