Changes are coming to Richvale Library!

A modern, accessible service desk that helps us to better connect with our community is being installed during Richvale’s closure. We’ll also be installing a new materials sorting machine, which allows us to process returned books much faster. This reduces hold wait times and helps our team to get items back on our shelves even faster than before. Additional furniture and cosmetic changes will be made to the branch during its closure.

  • August 17, 2022: The last day that you can visit, borrow items, pick up your holds and return items to Richvale Library. After this date, your active holds (holds available for pickup) will be moved to Central Library. You may also choose to Suspend (or pause) your holds or change your holds pickup location to another branch. 
     
  • August 18, 2022: Richvale Library will close. No items can be returned to the Library or its dropbox. 

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will Richvale Library be closed?

Richvale Library will be closed starting on August 18, 2022. We estimate that the Library will reopen in early September. Please continue to check our website for the latest information on Richvale's closure. 

What other RHPL locations can I visit?

RHPL has two locations that you may choose to visit while Richvale is closed. Richmond Green Library is also currently closed for renovations. You may visit: 

  • Central Library (located near Yonge Street and Major Mackenzie Drive)
  • Oak Ridges Library (located north of 19th Line and Yonge Street)

I have a hold available for pickup during the closure, and I’ve selected Richvale as my pickup location.

If your hold becomes available during the closure, you’ll have the option to either suspend your hold or pick up your item at another RHPL location. Suspending your hold allows you to maintain your spot on the holds list until a specified future date.

If you don't suspend your holds, once they become available they'll be waiting for you at Central Library. You can also change your holds pickup location to Oak Ridges Library

Where can I return my overdue items?

You may hold onto your overdue items during Richvale's closure or return them to either Central or Oak Ridges libraries. Once Richvale Library reopens, we’ll let you know so that you can return your items to the Library.

All items checked out prior to Richvale’s closure will be due back to Richvale Library one week after the branch reopens. While RHPL no longer collects fines for overdue items, you'll be charged a replacement fee for the items you’ve borrowed if they are not returned in a timely manner (4 weeks after the item due date).

Step-by-Step Guides

We've put together some handy guides to help optimize your library service during the transition period, which will be especially useful for customers who regularly use Richvale Library.

  • Suspending (or pausing) Holds: Make your holds available at a later date when Richvale is open once again. This option is convenient for customers who do not wish to pick up their holds at an alternate RHPL location during Richvale's closure.
     
  • Changing Holds Pickup Location: A default location for Central Library will be assigned to customers with holds that become available. This option is convenient for customers who don’t want to wait until Richvale Library reopens to pick up their holds, and would prefer to travel to Oak Ridges Library to pick up their holds. 

Step-by-Step Guide: Suspending Holds

1) Click on the 'My Account' button at the top of this page.

2) Enter in your library card number and PIN to access your 'My Account' portal.

3) Select the 'Holds' tab.

4) Click the 'Select All' checkbox if you wish to suspend all holds, or manually select the holds you wish to suspend by clicking the checkboxes next to their titles.

5) When the 'Select All' checkbox is ticked or individual checkboxes are ticked, click on the 'Suspend Hold(s)' button.

6) When prompted, enter in the desired start date and end date for your holds suspension and click 'Suspend'.

Note: While the exact reopening date of Richvale Library is unknown, we do anticipate that the branch will reopen in late August or early September.

7) After you've clicked 'Suspend,' you'll see a message in green that will confirm that your suspension was successful. The suspension date for each of your items will be noted in red next to each item.

Step-by-Step Guide: Changing Holds Pickup Location

1) Click on the 'My Account' button on the top of this page.

2) Enter in your library card number and PIN to access your 'My Account' portal.

3) Ensure you've selected the 'Holds' tab.

4) Click the 'Select All' checkbox if you wish to change the pickup location of all holds, or manually select the holds you wish to suspend by clicking the checkboxes next to their titles.

5) When the 'Select All' checkbox is ticked, or individual checkboxes are ticked, click on the 'Edit Pickup Location(s)' button.

6) When prompted, click on the dropdown menu beside each title to select a new pickup location. Click on your preferred location.

Note: Holds that are not suspended, or holds where your pickup location is not changed, will automatically be sent to Central Library. Richmond Green Library is also closed during this time, and will be unavailable as a pick up location.

7) After you've selected your new pickup location for each title, click on the 'Change' button.

8) After you've clicked the 'Change' button, the status of your request to edit your pickup location(s) will be displayed underneath the 'Action' column. To exit this pop-up, click 'OK'.
