About the Artist
Dominique Hui is a Chinese Canadian artist, a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. In 2013, an accidental visit to a Chinese art supplies store in Shenyang opened a complete new spectrum of art materials and philosophy that contrasted with her formal training in Western art. Thus began Dominique’s journey into exploring Chinese painting, which is mainly inspired by the beauty of flora, fauna, and landscapes. Dominique is also one of the authors of Amplify: Graphic Narratives of Feminist Resistance (2019).
Traditional Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. In four fun and easy lessons, learn about the xie yi method, a freehand style painting, in which symbolism and evoking the human spirit plays an important role. No experience required. Materials will be provided by the artist.
