- Who can use RHPL’s Maker Space equipment?
-
Persons with an Adult Card (full membership) and Student Card (full membership) in good standing may use our Maker Space equipment. You'll be required to show a valid photo ID (e.g. Ontario ID, driver’s license, student ID, etc.) at your appointment. You’ll also be financially responsible for any damage or misuse of the equipment. Permission and supervision by a parent or guardian is required at all times if a child 14 or younger wishes to use the equipment
- When and how can I book a Maker Space service?
-
With the exception of our iMac computers, you must use our online booking form to schedule your Maker Space use. Maker Space use is subject to the availability of the equipment and approval of Library staff. It’s recommended that you book our Maker Space services at least 7 days in advance. Same-day bookings may be available at the discretion of staff and are never guaranteed.
- Is there anything I can’t create?
-
You can’t create items that are illegal under provincial or federal law; or items that are unsafe, harmful, obscene, dangerous, or pose an immediate threat to the wellbeing of others. This includes weapons or weapon components, sexually explicit material, or material that is in violation of intellectual property rights, copyright law, patent or trademark protection. The Library reserves the right to halt, delete or disallow the creation of items that it deems to be inappropriate
- How long does it take to create something?

With the exception of our iMac Creative Stations, you must use our online booking form to schedule your Maker Space use. While some jobs can take hours (3D printing), others take less time (fabric printing). All work must be completed 30 mins prior to closing. Equipment will not operate after the Library is closed. Jobs may be cancelled if you exceed the time booked for your appointment.
- What do I need to bring?
-
What you need to bring depends on what equipment you are planning to use. Please refer to information on the specific equipment you’ll be using for information on what you’ll need to bring and what the Library will provide. In all instances, you’ll need to bring your RHPL card and a valid photo ID (e.g. Ontario ID, driver’s license, student ID) to your appointment.
Unless otherwise specified, only library-provided filaments and materials can be used; while we have a variety of colours available, only one colour of filament can be used at a time.
- How much does it cost to use our Maker Space equipment?
-
Note: During the launch of our Maker Space services, all equipment use will be free. We encourage you to use this time to tinker, create and build to your heart’s content!

- Do I need to stay with my project?
