Celebrate Family Literacy Day

Family Literacy Day is an annual celebration that promotes the importance of reading together and the benefits to a child's learning development.

Celebrate Family Literacy Day at the Library! Drop by the Children's Area at our Central branch on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and enjoy an engaging musical performance by Russ Clayton, followed by fun stories and crafts for the whole family!

    Improve Your Family Literacy Skills

Families are encouraged to learn together to improve their literacy skills by reading and doing other fun activities, such as:

    • Create a top 10 list of your all-time favourite books and read them together

    • Draw a scene or character from your books

    • Write a song or melody based on your favourite tale

    • Throw a book party and decorate with book themes or characters

    • Design a menu for your family party and base it off a cool book cover

    • Make a family board game night a standing weekly event

    • Read about people and stories that inspire you and help you grow and change

Visit ABC Life Literacy Canada for more information about literacy, and creative ideas to do with your family.
